Landscape Made Simple

Workshop - Graphics | Available

In this hands-on workshop Viktoria will demonstrate ways of approaching painting landscape in the studio from photos or studies, with plenty of individual attention to each student. Viktoria will demonstrate the effective methods she employs to transform a landscape image into a painting.

The students will be able to bring in an own reference material- a landscape study or a high quality 8x10 inch landscape photo and turn it into a beautiful landscape painting. The photo and/or study will be re-composed for maximum impact and transformed into a complete landscape painting.

The focus of this class will be the fundamentals of landscape painting: composition, perspective, value and color. This is an all-level workshop demonstrated in oil but, you have the option to bring & use your own acrylic paints if you wish. All students need to bring their own supplies, recommended list is attached.

Supply List Here

  • 11x14 canvas
  • Small jar of linseed or safflower oil
  • Bristle brushes made for oil painting (Flat #2, #4, #8, #10) (for example: Robert Simmons Signet, Rosemary, or Winsor-Newton flats are good).

I strongly recommend using professional-grade paints rather than student-grade paints or “hues” for the best results. There are many good professional brands; here are a few examples: Gamblin, Rembrandt, Old Holland, Vassari, M. Graham, Holbein, Michael Harding, and Charvin. 37ml size paint tubes are big enough for the class, larger ones are more economical for the long term.

Recommended Colors:

  • titanium white,
  • ivory black,
  • ultramarine blue,
  • cerulean blue,
  • cadmium yellow light,
  • cadmium orange,
