Lap Loom Weaving Techniques
Class - Textiles | Registration opens 11/10/2026 9:00 AM EDT
Learn the basics of weaving on beginner friendly plywood lap looms. These lightweight but sturdy looms are super portable, and many techniques from larger looms translate to the smaller size. Create several small to medium size (and even miniature!) weavings that can be displayed and used throughout the home, hung from a rear view mirror, or even worn as jewelry! You’ll also take with you your own set of tools, so that you can keep weaving in the future as well! All supplies included. Ages 14 and up.
Andrea Raines
Originally from Alexandria, VA, Andrea earned her undergraduate degree in Studio Art from Smith College in 2002, and her Masters in Arts of Teaching Art in 2003. Since then, she has taught art to students k-12 for 20 years in schools and camps in Northern Virginia and Yadkin County, landing at the Career Center in Winston-Salem in 2018. Her favorite thing in the classroom is challenging her students to think of materials and techniques in new ways, and to do things they didn’t think were possible!
In her own work, she loves combining materials (fabric, clay, yarn, found objects and textiles) and techniques (weaving, sewing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking) in new unexpected ways.
