Class - Photography | Class unavailable for online registration. To register, please call 336-723-7395 Ex 1201.
Come learn why pinhole photography is so much fun. First you get to make the camera yourself. Second you don't need to know f stops, worry about whether your battery is working, or carry around a lot of different lenses. Third we get to be in the darkroom developing film and making prints. Bring your sense of humor and sense of discovery to this experimental class. No digital cameras, no software, just pure photography.
Hour 1 and 2— Camera Building and Film Loading
Brief intro to the pinhole principle shown with a working example
Hands-on: students build cameras from pre-cut kits and learn to load film in light free enviornments. In our case we will load the film in the darkroom but also illustrate the process using a Darkroom Changing bag.
Hour 3 and 4 — In the field Shooting and reloading
Photograph the world just outside Sawtooth. Learn to see the way a pinhole camera does. Create images that lean into the dreamy and mysterious aspects of a handmade camera. Be methodical about composition and subject matter. Test different exposure
times according to daylight values. Create multiple/layered exposures.
Hour 5 — Developing
Develop paper negatives together (this is often the most exciting part
for beginners — the image appearing in the tray)
Discuss paper negatives vs. positives, and options for scanning/inverting later if desired
Hour 6 — Refine & Reshoot
Review exposures and analyze exposures. Time permitting, create more images.
