Marbling With Acrylics: Classic Combed Patterns

Workshop - Graphics | Registration opens 8/11/2026 9:00 AM EDT

If you’ve taken an introductory marbling class that left you wanting more, here’s the class for you! We’ll take a deeper dive into the classic combed patterns that originated with marblers in Florence and traveled across Europe and the U.S., including French curls, angel wings, bouquets, and more!

Students will create 10-15 one-of-a-kind papers that can be displayed as artwork or used in book and paper arts, card making, and collage. We will work primarily with 9x12 paper and also take turns marbling 12x18 sheets on a larger tray.

Participants are required to have previous marbling experience (at least one class).

Students should wear closed-toed shoes with nonslip soles and clothes they won’t mind getting wet or paint-spattered. Bring an apron and a notebook and pen, if desired. Because some papers may still be wet at the end of the class period, students should plan to return to Sawtooth the week following the class to pick them up.
