Creative Sketchbook Keeping: The Art of Play

In a culture of constant production and perfection, one of the most valuable things you can do as an artist is keep a sketchbook. A sketchbook is a place for study rather than masterpiece and experimentation rather than efficiency. In this class, students will learn techniques to nurture creative habits and expand their practice of artmaking while using a variety of two-dimensional mediums.
Abby Weatherholtz
Abby Weatherholtz is a painter and seamstress from Front Royal, VA. She holds a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
Her background in both psychology and art has deeply influenced her belief in the connection between mental health and art-making. She whole-heartedly believes that art is not only a useful tool, but a necessary apparatus that unites different types of people and imposes humanity into our everyday lives through both the physical act of making and the critical reasoning involved in creating and experiencing art. At Sawtooth, she hopes to help encourage community and accessibility for everyone, regardless of background or skill-level.
