213 C. Figurative Sculpture Handbuilding
Class - Ceramics | Registration opens 8/11/2026 9:00 AM EDT
This is a Beginning Figurative Sculpture Handbuilding class to explore the creative possibilities of making figurative sculpture. Students will learn to create ceramic sculptures through pinching, slab building, and coiling techniques to create various projects and refine their skills while exploring new forms and design options. Decorating and glazing techniques will also be explored.
Ages: 16 - Adult
A $35 material fee for the first 25 pounds of stoneware clay will be added at time of checkout.
This class meets a total of 9 times.
In addition to class instruction, the tuition includes related glazes, firings, and access to open studio hours (open studio hours are subject to change).

For the first day of class, you will to bring need the following:
- 1 large car wash sponge
- 2-3 artist paint brushes sized small to medium
- 1 pottery tool kit (available for purchase on the first day of class for $20)
Kim Fontenot
Originally from Oklahoma City, Kim Fontenot moved to Winston Salem in 2009. She took her first sculpting class at Sawtooth around 2015. Sculpting quickly became her passion. Kim’s art focuses on the everyday non extraordinary snapshots of an animal or person’s life. She finds beauty in everyday tasks that many take for granted. Kim loves to sculpt because it allows her to be surrounded by all the pets she can’t have in real life due to allergies. The creation of animals is her happy place
