Over the course of this 5-week class, we will journey on a relationship to an animal of empowerment for you while exploring methods of the Mischetchnik. Meaning ‘mixed technique,’ this rich traditional painting method originates from Renaissance painters. This indirect approach to painting has been adapted throughout time by Visionary artists Ernst Fuchs, Amanda Sage, and many others.
You will be guided step by step, starting with an underdrawing. We will experiment with playful ways of approaching the canvas for an imprimatura layer, utilize techniques used by surrealist painters, and understand how to layer with a series of transparent glazes, as well as painting with layers of white. We will explore tonal values with shadows and light to reveal luminosity of color, depth, and our intentions in this transformative and magical process.
Lessons within the class include organizing compositions, brush techniques, creating form with tonal value and color theory. This method traditionally uses oil and egg tempera, and is modified in this class using fluid acrylic paints.
Open to beginners and seasoned painters, supplies and paint are included; students are welcome to purchase additional desired colors as the class goes on.
