Get ready for a frightfully fun day at the bench! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you'll create your own handcrafted bat necklace while learning the fundamentals of saw piercing, one of the most essential skills in metalsmithing. Don't worry...we promise this class won't make you batty!
Students will learn how to safely use a jeweler's saw to cut intricate shapes from sheet metal, refine edges, and finish their piece into a wearable pendant. Along the way, we'll cover proper sawing techniques, tool handling, filing, sanding, drilling, and basic finishing methods.
Whether you're brand new to metalsmithing or looking to build confidence with a jeweler's saw, this class is a fun and approachable way to develop foundational skills while creating a unique piece of jewelry that's perfect for the Halloween season, or for bat lovers year-round.
This workshop is open to ages 16 and up. $10 supply fee is payable at registration and includes everything you need.
Sarah Harvell
Sarah was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Floyd, Virginia and now resides in Winston-Salem, NC. She earned her BFA from Radford University in 2013 where she majored in Jewelry and Metalsmithing with an emphasis in fabrication and lost wax casting. In 2016 she received her MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University with a focus on shell forming and color on metal. In 2018, she launched Ravena Metalworks – a collection of one-of-a-kind, limited edition jewelry and small sculpture.
