Our Hispanic Outreach programs are a collaboration with our Sawtooth Art + Wellness Department, The Hispanic League and the North Carolina Museum of Art - Winston Salem and are held at the Generations Center. 

Led by Sara Gonzalez, the August workshop will be focused on Nanduti.  Ñanduti is a Paraguayan needle lace that was introduced by the Spanish, and bears similarities to Tenerife lace. "Ñanduti" means "spider web" in Guaraní, which is the official languages of Paraguay alongside Spanish. The lace is created in three steps: stretching a backing fabric on a frame and drawing the design, building a radiated warp and creating the lace, and using scissors to remove the backing fabric. In these workshops, you will learn the history of this lace and create your own Ñanduti motif.
