Tori-Bashi Serving Chopstick

Tori-Bashi is an everyday kitchen utensil inspired by Japanese “tori-bashi” serving chopsticks. Two extra-long tapered sticks pivot about a central dowel connector with an elastic band providing the spring-back mechanism. This class will cover the accurate cutting and shaping of wood blanks utilizing a series of production jigs paired with various power tools and hand tools.
Additional Information:- A $10 materials fee will be added to the total class fee at checkout.
- Enrollment is open to students ages 18 and up.
- Registration will close one week prior to the start of class.
- Class will take a lunch break around mid day. Students are encouraged to either pack a lunch or plan to visit one of the convenient eateries on nearby 4th Street.
Osamu Sassa
Osamu Sassa, a designer/maker originally from Rockland, Maine, will be the 2026/2027 Gondring Resident in Woodworking. Following a 20+ year career in architecture, Osamu or “Sam” turned his design focus to woodworking as a graduate of the Nine-month Comprehensive at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship(CFC) in Rockport, Maine, and later served as teaching assistant and co-instructor in product design for the same program.
