Square Baskets with Handles
Class - Wood | Available
Students will complete 2 square 10 X 10 baskets with handles. The first basket will be made with stop and start rows that are large enough for people to sign their names on the sides. This type of basket has been used for retirements, graduation parties, birthday parties, or just to document in a special way friends and family. Students can choose from several colors to accent the basket. The accent row is made by triple twining with dyed round reed.
The second basket has a decorated handle. It also has dyed reed in the middle of the basket. The spokes are split for the 11/64 small reed in the center and then woven back together at the top of the basket. This unique technique gives the basket a different look that other baskets do not have.
Skills learned will include - stop and start weaving, twining, triple twining, and a twill pattern for the decorative handle.
