Whether you’re new to film or returning after years of shooting digitally, this class demystifies the hybrid workflow and provides practical, repeatable methods for achieving high-quality results. Students will learn how to properly handle and evaluate negatives, prepare them for scanning, and choose the best approach for their needs—whether using flatbed scanners, dedicated film scanners, or DSLR/mirrorless camera scanning setups.
We’ll explore key techniques for capturing clean, detailed scans, including proper exposure, color balance, and file formats. From there, the course transitions into post-production, where students will learn how to process and refine their images using software such as Adobe Lightroom. Topics include inversion of negatives, color correction, contrast control, dust and scratch removal, and maintaining the natural aesthetic of film while enhancing clarity and consistency.
Throughout the three weeks, emphasis will be placed on building an efficient workflow—from import and organization to final export—so you can confidently manage both small projects and larger archives.
