Drawing Exercises
Class - Graphics 2D | Registration closed 2/23/2026
It is said that the backbone for most visual arts begins with drawing. This class is designed to strengthen your relationship with basic drawing tools & techniques with simple, innovative exercises. We’ll loosen up, hone in, and get more comfortable making marks with analogue techniques. Ages 18 and up. All experience levels welcome.
Materials needed:
- Vine charcoal (soft)
- Pencils/graphite sticks (B or softer)
- Gum eraser & pink pearl eraser
- 18x24 pad of newsprint
- 18x24 pad of approx. 80-90lb. white drawing paper
- 36” wooden dowel approx. 3/8” round or green tree branch
Les Caison III
Les III is an award-winning NC homegrown visual artist. He prefers mark making with mixed media often utilizing a narrative approach -- fashioning quirky, heartfelt stories just waiting to connect with you time and again. And in a variety of ways too: solo & group shows, curatorial duties, art classes, commissions, murals, design work, and he keeps it coming. Prolific is the word, over 25 years strong. Les is represented by Winston-Salem’s Visual Index Gallery and can often be found pedaling about on his bicycle.
