Blending Cyanotypes. Mixed Media
Class - Photography | Available
This immersive two-weekend workshop invites students to push the traditional cyanotype process beyond paper and into the realm of mixed media and tactile experimentation. Mixed Media Cyanotypes explores how the deep, luminous blues of the cyanotype can interact with fabric, cloth, acrylic paints, and a wide range of unconventional materials to create a singular, expressive work of art. Artist and Photographer Marina Paul will guide you into this unique spin beyond the standard fare of a traditional Cyanotype.
Over two consecutive Saturdays, students will learn the fundamentals of the cyanotype process and then expand upon it by layering imagery, textures, and materials. We’ll explore how different surfaces absorb chemistry, how transparency and opacity affect exposure, and how paint, stitching, collage elements, and found materials can be integrated both before and after printing. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation, problem-solving, and embracing the unpredictable nature of the process.
Through demonstrations and hands-on studio time, students will be encouraged to follow their instincts, respond to materials, and develop a personal visual language. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a completed mixed-media cyanotype artwork that reflects their individual approach and creative voice.
This workshop meets for two consecutive Saturdays, 4 hours per class, and is open to all experience levels. Curiosity and a willingness to experiment are highly encouraged.
