Needle Book

Art + Wellness | Registration opens 2/10/2026 9:00 AM EST

Create a needle book to carry your hand sewing tools out into the world, or keep them organized and safe at home. Students will select from a wide variety of inspiring and beautiful fabrics to compose their one of a kind book with 2 -3 felt pages. We will practice simple hand sewing and embroidery techniques that are perfect for makers of all skill levels. Whether you are at the beginning of your sewing journey, or have been sewing for years and would like to spruce up your tools- this is the workshop for you! Each student will bring home one needle book ready to use, as well as confidence in their design, sewing, and embroidery skills.  All supplies included.  Ages 14 and up.

Raines, Andrea
Andrea Raines

Originally from Alexandria, VA, Andrea earned her undergraduate degree in Studio Art from Smith College in 2002, and her Masters in Arts of Teaching Art in 2003. Since then, she has taught art to students k-12 for 20 years in schools and camps in Northern Virginia and Yadkin County, landing at the Career Center in Winston-Salem in 2018. Her favorite thing in the classroom is challenging her students to think of materials and techniques in new ways, and to do things they didn’t think were possible!

In her own work, she loves combining materials (fabric, clay, yarn, found objects and textiles) and techniques (weaving, sewing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking) in new unexpected ways.
