Introduction to Marbling with Acrylics on Paper: Friday, 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Workshop - Graphics | Available
Class Meets: Friday, 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Marbling is an ancient art form that creates stunning modern designs! By manipulating paints on top of a liquid bath with tools, students create one-of-a-kind papers that can be displayed or used in book and paper arts, card making, and collage. It’s a deeply satisfying craft that welcomes recipe followers, mad scientists, and anyone who enjoys learning through a mix of structure and surprise.
This workshop will cover the fundamentals of marbling with acrylic paints on a carrageenan bath using rakes, combs, and brushes.
Things to know:
- Students should wear closed-toed shoes with nonslip soles and clothes they won’t mind getting wet or paint-spattered.
- Bring an apron and a notebook and pen, if desired.
- Because some papers may still be wet at the end of the class period, students should plan to return to Sawtooth the week following the class to pick them up.
Material Fee: $35 per student, includes all marbling materials (paper, paints, alum, carrageenan), access to trays + tools, instructional handouts.
