All the Ways to Appliqué

Class - Textiles | Available

Applique is a textile artform where one piece of fabric is attached onto another piece of fabric.  This is usually decorative, yet can be practical.  It can be simple or ornate, whichever the artist prefers.  And once you learn the art of hand applique, you will be able to attach anything you want to another piece of fabric!

Students will learn various methods of applying one textile to another, like raw edge, turned edge, and using fusible a couple of different ways, plus students will use a variety of stitches.  You do not need to know how to hand sew prior to class, but some experience may be helpful.  Knowing how to hand applique comes in handy when you are using visible mending techniques, slow stitching, and mindful stitching, as it gives you the tools and experience to add extra fabric and embellishment to other works you may be working on.

Students will be provided with multiple options for a pattern, so not everyone’s piece will look the same, and will have fabric scraps available to use.  However, if there is a pattern you’d like to use, please bring it in and we’ll see if it will work as your first applique piece!  This is a sewing class all by hand, so sewing machines will not be needed, and students will be provided with needle and thread.
