539. Beginning & Intermediate Glass Beadmaking - NEW Saturday section

Class - Glass | Available

NEW SATURDAY SECTION! This glass beadmaking class will set a firm foundation of skills and take beginners through all the basics of glass bead making using a benchtop torch. Cover torch and studio safety and learn about creating glass beads around a mandrel. Start with the traditional round bead, then increase skills by learning to use other tools to shape the beads and apply other forms of glass such as stringers and frit to embellish the surface of the bead. Repeat students practice more advanced surface effects and shaped beads. Soft glass COE 104 is used in the beadmaking classes. Most materials are included in the fee, others discussed during class. You're welcome to bring a beverage and snacks or bag lunch and take a lunch break. Ages 16+.

Naquin, James
James Naquin

James began his glass career in 1999. After a few months of practice he took a class with Tom Holland and Sage in Fox, AR. After a few more months behind the torch he became a member of the LA crafts guild after being juried into the organization. In 2001 James was a studio assistant for Loren Stump at Penland School of Crafts. He fell in love with the mountains of Western NC so much that NC has been home since. His interests are varied: cooking, beer brewing, gardening, music and podcasts. One influences the other!
