Try your hand at cutting wooden screws by way of making a flower press. Learn to utilize a handful of woodshop tools to cut and shape your press base, we will then use a specialized router jig to cut our screws out of wooden dowels. Students will drill and tap their own wooden wing nuts and have the opportunity to add decorative elements to their press. We will cover sanding and finishing your piece to prepare it for flowers and botanical specimens. Prior woodworking experience is recommended.
Additional Information:
- A material fee of $40 will be added to the total at check out
- Registration will close 1 week prior to the start of class
- Enrollment is open to ages 18+
Molly Steadman
Molly Steadman is a basket weaver, woodworker, and craftsperson who is relocating to Winston-Salem from Portland, Oregon to be the 2025/2026 Gondring Woodworking resident. She holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Pacific Northwest College of Art and has spent several years as a student, volunteer, and educator at the Columbia Basin Basketry Guild. She is drawn to historical craft techniques and is eager to further explore her interest in basketry and greenwood furniture traditions through a contemporary and queer lens.
