Friday, 10/7, 6-8pm & Saturday, 10/8, 10am-1pm And introductory course in watercolor, specifically focused on botanical themes of flowers, trees, rocks, roots, and leaves. This course will introduce multiple techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry brush, blending colors, and the basic understanding and use of watercolor as a medium. Ages: 13 - Adult

  • Paint-watercolors, 5 ml, I suggest Winsor Newton or Holbein brands. If you already have a palette with dry colors, those can work great too.
    1. Cadmium yellow
    2. Ultramarine blue
    3. Cadmium red
    4. Raw umber
    5. Dioxane purple
    6. Lamp Black

    Paint-gouache, 5 ml 7. white gouache
    Brushes, I suggest sable blend but synthetic are fine. 8. 2-5 pointed round brushes with a range in size 9.
    One medium flat brush
    Paper
    1. I suggest: Arches cold pressed watercolor paper 22” x 30”, 140 lbs (because you can tear this paper down to any size) but the larger pads you can buy at Hobby Lobby or AC Moore work too.

    3. watercolor pencils, I suggest staedtler brand, don’t worry about buying some if you don’t have them, I will bring mine. They are more to experience how different these mediums can be!
Bowden, Julia

Julia Bowden is a North Carolina based visual artist whose current art practice is focused around installation, drawing, and bronze sculptures. Julia grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and studied at Maryland Institute College of Art where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a double major in Painting and Art History. Julia actively participated in landscape painting competitions in the Mid-Atlantic area until 2016 when she moved to Italy to pursue her Masters of Fine Arts in Florence. In Italy, Julia discovered an interest in sculpture, particularly marble carving, resin casting, and bronze casting. Her current body of work focuses on the cycle of growth and decay in nature. She creates large two and three dimensional murals evoking trees and forests. Julia is an active member of the Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis, MD.
