An introductory course in watercolor, specifically focused on botanical themes of flowers, trees, rocks, roots, and leaves and all the components that make up a typical North Carolina landscape. This course will introduce multiple techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry brush, blending colors, and the basic understanding and use of watercolor as a medium.  We will incorporate found objects, such as barks, leaves, and other mixed media to build a multimedia landscape depiction. Ages: 13 - Adult

  • Supply List Paint-
    watercolors, 5 ml, I suggest Winsor Newton or Holbein brands
    1. Cadmium yellow
    2. Yellow ochre
    3. Ultramarine blue
    4. Cadmium red
    5. Raw umber
    6. Burnt sienna
    7. Dioxane purple
    8. Viridian
    9. Lamp Black

    Paint-gouache, 5 ml
    10.white gouache
    Brushes
    I suggest sable blend but synthetic are fine

    2.2-5 pointed round brushes with a range in size
    3. One medium flat brush Paper

Bowden, Julia

Julia Bowden is a North Carolina based visual artist whose current art practice is focused around installation, drawing, and bronze sculptures. Julia grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and studied at Maryland Institute College of Art where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a double major in Painting and Art History. Julia actively participated in landscape painting competitions in the Mid-Atlantic area until 2016 when she moved to Italy to pursue her Masters of Fine Arts in Florence. In Italy, Julia discovered an interest in sculpture, particularly marble carving, resin casting, and bronze casting. Her current body of work focuses on the cycle of growth and decay in nature. She creates large two and three dimensional murals evoking trees and forests. Julia is an active member of the Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis, MD.
