Saturday, 1/8, 10am-12pm at Sawtooth
Saturday, 1/15, 10am-2:30pm at Mixxer

This class is a collaboration between Sawtooth and Mixxer Makerspace!
You will learn various techniques for designing original, stencil-friendly images that can then be cut into sturdy and re-usable mylar stencils at Sawtooth.  After the first class meeting, you will get tips for choosing, altering, and finalizing your design, you will have a week to fine-tune your images.  The second class meeting will be at MIXXER, where you’ll learn how to set up the laser, cut your designs, and then use your stencils in various mixed-media techniques.  You’ll then have all the skills you need to go to MIXXER on your own if you want to create more stencils! The price of the class includes a starter pass to Mixxer Maker space, which includes two more visits to Mixxer after the class is over.

  • Supplies are provided.
Norris, Randy

Randy Norris attended Wake Forest University as a math major, earned a graduate degree in education at the University of Virginia, and has been a high school counselor for 28 years.  Her free time is filled with Wake Forest sporting events, art, reading, and travel.  She took her first class at Sawtooth about 15 years ago, and since then has become immersed in multi-media art, mostly in the form of collage, print-making, and book-making.  She also occasionally travels to out of town art workshops, which have included learning about alcohol ink techniques and acrylic pouring.  A wood-block-printing class that made use of the MIXXER laser cutter inspired her to explore stencil-making with the laser.

Pape, Patty

Patty spent her work career in the telecommunications world, retiring a few years ago as an executive from a multinational corporation. She started taking drawing, painting, and photography classes at Sawtooth, and quickly became immersed in mixed media. Patty has an obsession with paper, paste, and art supplies which she now uses to focus primarily on acrylic painting, collage, and art journaling.
