This NEW workshop will allow you to create raku-fired ceramic components to be used in jewelry-making. Taught by a metal clay artist who's developed home-friendly methods of creating raku clay components for jewelry-making, learn about ceramic clay forming to create beads, charms and pendant forms. In the first session, mold and sculpt ceramic raku clay and learn the firing processes to bisque fire ceramic clay at home. The instructor will take all pieces after class and fire for the students.
Return the following Saturday to glaze pieces with traditional raku glaze as well as incorporating silver metal clay to the pieces. Learn about different glaze properties, how to incorporate fine silver clay into the glazes and the proper raku glaze firing techniques. Students will watch a short video for instruction on raku firing at home. All firings can be performed in a standard metal clay kiln at home. Firings are done off-site and your pieces will be packaged and mailed to you following their final firing. It’ll be like opening a treasure box! You’ll be able to create more than a dozen pieces during this workshop. A $75 fee will be paid to the instructor at the first class session and covers all materials, firings, and mailing. Available for students ages 16 through adult. Masks and social distancing are required in this and all Sawtooth classes.
