Convert your own drawing or design to a collection of hand-printed items in this energetic and informative one-day workshop. While traditional screen-printing normally requires an exposure unit and photo-sensitive emulsion, screen-printing with stencils is the perfect do-it-at-home option.?

Students will bring a bold black and white drawing to the workshop and work with the instructor refine the artwork (as needed) to be “print-ready”. ? In this workshop, students will learn the basics of screen printing with stencils: how to prepare a screen using cut stencils or painting with screen blockers, ?and how to print their own designs using textile inks.?

Everyone should bring five items of their choosing to print. As long as they are fabric and flat, we can help you print on it! Shirts, tote bags, tea towels, bandanas, and thrift store jean jackets will all work great. Leave with a wearable work of art, a surprise gift for a friend, or an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags!

Anderson, Woodie

Artist and designer Woodie Anderson employs printmaking, drawing, sculpture and written language to explore the areas where identity, personal history and society intersect. While studying fine art and graphic design at Appalachian State University (ASU), she began experimenting with the tensions between fine art and commercial applications of visual language–areas she continues to explore in much of her work through the use of text, info-graphics and other collected graphic materials. Anderson believes art-making facilitates thinking, enhancing our experience of the world around us. A teacher at Sawtooth since 2013, she enjoys demystifying printmaking and helping students tap into their creative hearts. Anderson’s work is featured in The Art-o-mat® “Unpacked” Book and in “Art Quilts at Play” by Jane Davila and Elin Waterston. She is a member of Artworks Gallery and has exhibited at regional and national venues including the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, SECCA and The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at ASU. www.art.woodieanderson.net
