A simple garment, ponchos have a few variations that
assemble your hand-woven blanket into a lovely wrap. In
this workshop, we choose our colors, yarns and pattern for
a custom designed poncho. We can use fluffy thick cottons,
soft wool and mohair or a thin slinky style with a stunning
drape. This project is a fun way to use specialty yarns for
inlay and Saori weaving techniques. We will discuss different
finishes of fringe, loops and beaded edges, adding closed
slits for sleeves and a knitted cowl neckline. Students are
welcome to bring their own yarns and to contact Kathryn
before the class begins to choose special yarns to use.

Gauldin, Kathryn

Kathryn employs pattern, texture and color using printmaking, weaving, dyes and other materials in combinations to make art and fine craft. Kathryn enjoys the challenge of materials and structure, sometimes redefining and repurposing the intention of the material, with great inspiration from nature. She studied art at UNCG, WCU, Haywood Production Crafts program and has a BA in Art from High Point College and continues to make mistakes and learn new things. She exhibits locally, participates in residencies and presents workshops. Kathryn has been awarded several grants that fund new projects that are easily found on social media and local galleries.
