Making Comics is a relaxed, hands-on studio course designed for anyone who wants to draw—especially those who think they can’t. Through weekly activities, simple prompts, and approachable demonstrations, you will learn to build characters, experiment with expression, tell visual stories, and develop a regular drawing practice. The class emphasizes spontaneity, low-stakes creativity, and supportive feedback. No previous art experience is required; curiosity and a willingness to play are more than enough.

Moderator: Steve Kroeger, a retired UC special education faculty and former public school intervention specialist, embraces cartooning and graphic narrative in areas that include the food shed and breastfeeding as well as international relations and human sexuality. His cartoons have been published in peer-reviewed journals. He has self-published four chicken comics with his grandsons.
