In the 35 years following the Civil War, Americans experienced dramatic changes: Reconstruction and Jim Crow, surging immigration, and the second industrial revolution. In this course, we will examine how these changes transformed the United States. We will also ask how Americans responded to unfolding conditions and whether their reactions help us better understand our choices today.

 

Moderator: Christine Anderson is Professor Emerita of American History and Gender and Diversity Studies at Xavier Univ. Her work focuses on women, African-Americans, and public history.
