As China and the U.S. compete for primacy, old alliances are in flux. How are they responding to the realities of this changing global restructuring? Many of these countries have chosen their own paths to become more independent and to thrive with new alliances based on trade and mutual security. This class will offer a history and current profile of Brazil, Indonesia, Chile, South Korea, Australia, and Vietnam as well as events in the E.U. Canada is aggressively shifting to a more pragmatic approach to trade and security.

Moderator: Doug MacCurdy is a naturalized American citizen and native Canadian. Educated in Winnipeg at Univ. of Manitoba and Univ. of Winnipeg, he has lived and worked in the U.S. on three separate occasions as well as having international work experience in France, Holland, Japan, the UK, and other countries. He has received OLLI's Stephen Appel Award for excellence in teaching.
