Are religions exclusive, inclusive, or complementary? In this introduction to an ongoing series, we'll define “religion" broadly and in specific, distinguish religions "of the book” from religions "of experience,” and consider indigenous religions. Because all religions have been altered by historical and cultural forces, present forms differ from original ones. Throughout this series, we’ll look at religions in their original and ideal forms. In order to move beyond mere tolerance, we will outline a theological position that emphasizes the truth in all religions and our common goals.

Moderator: Don Maloney taught psychology, philosophy, and religion for Univ. of Maryland at US military bases in Europe and Asia. He has also taught at several stateside universities, most recently XU. After receiving his master’s from Gonzaga Univ., he did post-graduate study at Boston College and at universities in France and Germany. He is a recipient of OLLI's Stephen Appel Award for excellence in teaching.
