1204 ZOOM "The Tavern": Teaching Life Philosophy by an Epic Poem—Honey to the Ear
one-time ZOOM | Registration opens 8/1/26 12:00 AM
Madhushala (1935), an epic poem by celebrated Indian poet Bachchan, is about both hedonic life in a tavern and life-at-large. Dr. Kris will recite "honeyed" verses and elucidate each verse for its immediate hedonism as well as its joyful lessons on such facets of life as aspiration, ambition, romance, fate, fandom, devotion, death anxiety, peace of mind, and immersion. He will also spotlight the old-age memory benefit of memorizing poetry. No prior love of poetry is required. Dr. Kris’s translation of Madhushala is forthcoming (HarperCollins, 2027).
