9702 The Science Behind “Project Hail Mary”: What Happens When Stars Die

One-time in-Person | Registration opens 5/15/26 10:00 AM

Presenter: Richard Longshore

What makes a star a star? It’s more than just a twinkle! We’ll discuss stars of various sizes, including our own sun, Polaris, and Betelgeuse, showing what happens to them when they collapse and die. Then, we’ll find out what is created by the energy and matter dying stars leave behind: black holes, white dwarfs, supernovas, cosmic dust, and even us. Everyone and everything is made of stardust!
