2709 "Learn and Do" Pivot: Moderator-Leaders Turning Knowledge Into Impact Beyond the Classroom
Multi-week in-person | Available
We propose to revitalize engagement through OLLI’s Learn and Do Innovation Model, a three-session train-the-moderator workshop that integrates active learning with purposeful community action. Session One introduces the conceptual framework, using StoryCorps to demonstrate how learning precedes service. Session Two invites community organizations to present needs and volunteer opportunities to build meaningful partnerships. Session Three is an interactive workshop where learners shape community action ideas into potential future courses. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the model, strengthen community connections, and conceive future Learn and Do course proposals.
Moderators: Lori Payne, retired schoolteacher, and OLLI Board Vice Chair. Holly Richards, public library retiree, and member of the OLLI Curriculum Committee. Dave Butler, Emeritus Professor of Biomedical Engineering, OLLI moderator and leader of the OLLI Curriculum Committee Self-Exploration Academic Team. Ralph Brueggemann, author, OLLI moderator, and UC Adjunct Professor, with nonprofit board experience.
