Germans numbered 10% of the population at the time of the Revolution but played an important role in it. Historian Don Heinrich Tolzmann explores the units they formed in the Continental Army and some of their officers, including Major David Ziegler, Cincinnati's first mayor. Tolzmann is the author of numerous books on German-American history, President of the German-American Citizens League, Curator of the German Heritage Museum, Historian for the Covington-Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee, Executive Director of German Heritage Consulting, and UC Curator and Professor Emeritus.
