2333 Planet Earth and Its People in the Year 2100

Multi-week in-person | Available

We OLLI members have lived through the most fast-paced changes in earth's history. Jet planes, transistors, fiber optics, color TV, the internet, organ transplants, satellites, and space travel have arrived. Can that pace be sustained? How will our descendants be living 75 years from now? Which of today's possibilities will turn into widespread realities (or dead-ends)? What will unforeseen developments bring? This course will examine many of the elements of change through 2100, including population, climate, natural resources, energy supply, food supply, health, governance, and transportation. Discussion will be encouraged.

Moderator: Alan Flaherty conducted an OLLI course on sustainability a couple of years ago, and it has made him think about delights and challenges his sub-teen grandchildren will live with in 2100, when they'll be approaching the same age as he is now. He is a retired engineer and media executive who has focused on process analysis and process design.
