1983 IN-PERSON Aristotle for the Ages: His Modern Relevance

One-time in-Person | Available

Aristotle’s influence on later thought was immense, and some of it is still relevant today—especially as it pertains to ethics and politics. We will discuss Aristotle's relationship to Plato, how he both followed his teacher and disagreed about some important issues. Let’s discover how Aristotle continues to influence the way we think today.

Moderator: Lawrence Jost taught philosophy at UC from 1970 until 2024, concentrating on Ancient Philosophy and ethics more generally. Aristotle's ethical writings have been his major scholarly subject, but he has taught many courses on Socrates, Plato, the Stoics, and others.
