4626 Crossing Borders, Expanding Boundaries: From the Jim Crow South to Dachau

One-time in-Person | Registration opens 1/6/26 10:00 AM

Local historian Dan Hurley will speak on his latest book, Crossing Boundaries, Expanding Boundaries: A White Soldier's Experience of the WWII Segregated Army. The book draws on the wartime letters and diaries of his father, Irwin Hurley. Born and raised in middle class suburban Northern Kentucky, Irwin was challenged to broaden his views, especially as an officer in a Quartermaster Truck Company made up of 130 African American enlisted men that was headed by a Jewish Captain. The unit ended the war as liberators at Dachau.
