This course explores the study of military history and its relevance today. We will go beyond traditional accounts of battles and generals to consider war as a social, cultural, and technological phenomenon. We will discuss: What Military History Is; The Evolution of Warfare; War, Society, and Culture; Technology, Strategy, and the Conduct of War; Insurgency and Asymmetric Warfare; The 21st-Century Battlefield; Ethics, Controversies, and the Future of Military History.
Moderator: John Lane has 20 years of teaching experience in world civilizations, AP European history, and US history. His undergraduate and graduate degrees are from UC and NKU with additional graduate training from Indiana Univ. He has traveled extensively in Britain and Continental Europe. His major fields of study are British and military history.
