1026 William James: What Makes American Philosophy American?

Multi-week in-person | Registration opens 1/6/26 10:00 AM

Although William James was prominent a century ago, his insights and writings on the meaning of truth, ethics, and religious experience have continued to shape the discussion of what it means to be an American. This course will be founded upon reading selections from the Penguin Classic "Pragmatism and Other Writings" and then discussing them in class. Come prepared to think and discuss.

Moderator: Michael Marchal has an AB in English and History from Xavier and an MA and PhD (cand.) from Fordham. He has written six books and taught English full-time in high school for 44 years and college philosophy as an adjunct for decades.
