2433 Thornton Wilder for the Fun of It: Discovering Three Great Plays

Multi-week in-person | Registration opens 1/6/26 10:00 AM

Under Rick’s guidance, we will read aloud three plays by America’s greatest playwright: “The Long Christmas Dinner,” “Our Town,” and “The Skin of Our Teeth.” (Declining to read a part -- i.e., "just listening" -- is perfectly OK, too!) We will examine the language, the characters and their motivations, the plot, the theatrical innovations, and the meaning of these plays. Employing humor and anecdotes, Rick will lead the discussions as we explore the genius of Mr. Wilder, a creator of amazing, memorable, and Pulitzer Prize-winning scenarios.

Moderator: Rick Sowash is a classical composer, author, and publisher of his own music, books, and recordings. His high school English teacher (later his mother-in-law) introduced him to Thornton Wilder’s writings, and he has cherished, seen, read, studied, and thought about his favorites among the Wilder’s works for 50+ years.
