Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in 1884 and has found an enduring place among the classics of American literature, renowned for its humor, insight, vivid characters, and commitment to social justice. Percival Everett's recent novel James (2024) tells the story from the point of view of Jim, the escaping enslaved man who befriends and aids Huck as they journey down the Mississippi. it's full of insights, thrills, and surprises, a tour-de-force of literary and historical imagination. We'll spend four weeks exploring each book.
