2829 The Great Migration: Harlem Renaissance, Jacob Lawrence, and Walnut Hills
One-time in-Person | Registration opens 8/26/25 10:00 AM
The Great Migration involved the movement of more than 6 million African American citizens from the agricultural South to the industrial North between about 1900 and 1970. Harlem Renaissance painter Jacob Lawrence composed a series of 60 small paintings illustrating the story of migrants around the time of WWI from his perspective in New York. This talk will compare his work to images of the Black community in Cincinnati during the Great Migration to help us understand our social history.
