2616 Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" Novel, Roaring '20s, and Careless People

Multi-week in-person | Registration opens 8/26/25 10:00 AM

We will begin by reading and discussing The Great Gatsby before taking a deeper dive into the Fitzgeralds and the 1920s and ‘30s, aided by Sarah Churchwell's panoramic book Careless People: Murder, Mayhem, and the Invention of The Great Gatsby. The Roaring ‘20s will further be invoked through audio and video clips. A lot was going on with the fallout from WWI, the Lost Generation, women's suffrage, Prohibition, and the Jazz Age. Zelda, Scott's wife, has a prominent role. Were the 1920s a distant mirror of our times?
