1721 Understanding the Holocaust: Context and Voices

Multi-week in-person | Registration opens 8/26/25 10:00 AM

If you graduated before 2000, you may be surprised how much Holocaust scholarship has developed since. More survivors have shared their stories, and pedagogy no longer seeks to horrify learners. Using diaries, recorded testimonies, and appropriate imagery, we will expand our understanding of the Holocaust in anticipation of a winter session field trip to the extraordinary exhibit, “Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away,” coming to Cincinnati Museum Center. This fall course includes a Saturday, November 8, field trip to CMC’s Holocaust & Humanity Center, which requires an additional fee.

Moderator: Anne Flick, a gifted education specialist and secondary social studies teacher, has taught courses on Holocaust and genocide history as well as Holocaust literature. Volunteering with the Holocaust and Genocide Education Network, she works to bring Holocaust and genocide education to Ohioans (and neighbors) from age 10 to 100. She also is an adjunct teaching graduate courses at XU.
