Between scheduled services, streaming, podcasts, and social media, most of us are spending many hours with screens and earbuds. This course will look at the providers and their services. We'll hear about and discuss the specific delights, frustrations, and interests of course members. We'll provide technology history and demystify technical and marketing jargon with the goal of helping us become better consumers and well-informed citizens in the 21st-century Information Age. Moderators: Rita Stull and Alan Flaherty conceived this course from discussions concerning their careers in digital technology. Rita has long experience in public sector telecom regulation and development of public, education, and government access programing and communications training. Alan has long experience as an executive and consultant in communications technologies including newspapers, cable TV, satellites, and undersea cables.
