We will continue our study of Richard Wagner’s canon of music dramas, starting this term with his epic Ring Cycle. Wagner (1813-1883) was a German composer, conductor, essayist, and theater director who revolutionized opera through his innovative staging and “total work of art” concept. He is considered among the most influential and controversial composers in history. He broke with tradition by combining drama, music, singing, and stagecraft.
