1318 Essays of George Orwell

Multi-week in-person | Registration opens 8/26/25 10:00 AM

George Orwell viewed the world through a political lens, with this view driving his life’s primary endeavor: writing. Although best known for 1984 and Animal Farm, he was also a prolific essayist, opining on subjects as diverse as Gandhi, antisemitism, and the sex life of toads. In this class we will read many of his essays (available gratis online at orwellfoundation.com), including his controversial “The Perfect Cup of Tea.” Discussion format, no lectures.

Moderator: Joel (Kevin) Klekamp. BA, economics; MBA, finance and accounting; wrote a lot of essays during college years but promises not to make you write any.
