1128 Plato's Reflections on Love in the Symposium
Multi-week in-person | Registration opens 8/26/25 10:00 AM
The word “love” covers so many aspects of human interaction. Yet we have all experienced it. Plato’s dialogue, “The Symposium,” is constructed as a conversation at a dinner party during which each guest has to speak about love as he sees it. After an introduction to Plato and “dialogue,” we will discuss each speech in turn. You are expected to keep up with the reading and join in the discussions. Translation required will be by Christopher Gill from Penguin Classics.
Moderator: Michael Marchal has a bachelor's in English and a PhD (cand.) in Philosophy. He taught both in high school and college for decades and has written six books. Now he enjoys discussing serious topics with mature people. He also loves movies and cooking.
