1023 IN PERSON: Jazz in the 20th Century

We will explore the development of jazz in the 20th century focusing on the composers and the musicians, and how they related to the times. We will begin each class with "St. James Infirmary" project, where we will listen to different musicians' performances of this classic song.
Moderator: Bruce Bowdon taught middle school music for 43 years. He was a cocktail pianist in a former life, a failed songwriter in his present, and plans to exaggerate his accomplishments in the future. He is recipient of OLLI's Stephen Appel Award for excellence in teaching.
