Since the Revolutionary War, the relationship between the government and the citizens who have served in the military has varied. Benefits have been created and promises broken but there has been steady progress to today’s Cabinet-level organization that commands a large part of the national budget. This history will illustrate the failures and accomplishments on the path to today’s modern Veterans Administration.
