4905 Discovering and Telling Your Family Story: Genealogy Basics

Multi-week in-person | Registration opens 4/1/25 10:00 AM

What can you discover about your ancestors through the basics of genealogy? We’ll discuss methods of building a tree using family sources and digital tools, and then learn how to document and organize our findings. After exploring various storytelling methods including using photographs, other media, and prose, you will create a family story outside of class to share with the group. Depending on class interest, a field trip to Cincinnati Public Library downtown genealogy department is possible.

Moderator: Melissa Broome fell in love with telling her family story by participating in OLLI classes. Curiously, she taught herself genealogy to learn the details of her ancestors. Combining her skills as a scrapbooker, retired librarian, technology and history educator, she is recording the story of her ancestors through various media. Happily, her story will always be a work in progress.
